The competition begins! Teyva Dillion (10) sketches up her campaign poster and prepares to run for executive Vice President. On Friday, May 12th, ASB candidates congregated in room 158 to create their posters to promote themselves and film their speeches. “I think it was pretty cool the way that people thought of things from the top of their head, like how they could come up with something so easily. But at the same time, they were probably nervous,” said Abby Carnahan, who helped record the ASB candidates’ speeches. Photo Credit: Roselyn Robinson.

As the 2022-2023 school year ends, Cascade High School’s Associated Student Body (ASB) representatives and executives are re-elected for the upcoming year. These associates go to meetings, help set up events, make decisions for the student body and obtain leadership skills. “They need to possess the qualities that make a good leader, someone who shows up on time, someone that’s going to be motivated, someone who wants to influence change and somebody who wants to work hard to make our place a better place,” stated Ms. Bibby, CHS’s Vice Principal and ASB advisor. Each class has a board consisting of a president, VP, treasurer, and secretary. There is also a CHS Executive Board which has the same roles but with larger responsibilities. The executive treasurer and secretary can be from any grade level, while the president and VP must be juniors or seniors.

“To be on ASB you need to be responsible, show up to meetings on time and show leadership skills. I learned to take charge to keep the freshman ASB in line and better sense of communication,” said Kikkan Brine (9).

Teyva Dillon (10) was Secretary for the year 2022-23. "I ran for ASB to get involved and make decisions on the student body's behalf; it developed my time management skills. It also helped me start thinking of the bigger picture and what other people would enjoy,” said Dillon. Some of the Executive board's responsibilities are running meetings, managing the school's ASB budget, and understanding the rules and standards it takes to be an ASB member. “To be on ASB you need to be responsible, show up to meetings on time and show leadership skills. I learned to take charge to keep the freshman ASB in line and better sense of communication,” said Kikkan Brine (9).

This year candidates for Executive President were Scott Lindsay (11), and Ethan Flansburg (10). Running for Vice President were Teyva Dillon (10) and Rhetta Cummings (11). The treasurer candidates were Kikkan Brine (9) and Rhone Goodfellow (10). Running unopposed for Executive Secretary was Cordelia Freeland (9). Elections took place on Friday, May 19th, during flex classes. The results of this year's Executive Board electees were announced Monday, May 22nd. Lindsay was elected President, Dillon as VP, Brine as treasurer and Freeland as secretary.

Next year’s ASB plans to meet over summer to build bonds and learn about each other. Once school starts again those elected to ASB will learn their responsibilities and start carrying out plans. “I’m excited to work with everybody, I think we have a really good group of people and I’m excited to improve the school to the best of our abilities,” said Lindsay.
