What are you doing this summer? Are you going on vacation? Stuck at home all day? Take advantage of the fact that summer is just around the corner and apply for a summer job. Summer is a great time of year to earn some extra money.

“Working a summer job is super fun especially if you want to make extra money on the side, a restaurant is a good place to work during the summer. Its super fun and a very good experience,” said Anaii Mendoza (12).

Summer is the best time of the year for most people. During summer, you don't have school, so people like to take advantage and go on vacation or even stay home all summer long. A summer job would be a good option and could help you be occupied this summer if you're not doing anything.

When looking for a summer job, you must look for stores or restaurants that are hiring and need employees for the summer.

“Working a summer job is super fun especially if you want to make extra money on the side, a restaurant is a good place to work during the summer. Its super fun and a very good experience,” said Anaii Mendoza (12).  Luckily, we live in a very busy spot during the summer where many businesses need help. Some places that will always hire during this time of year are rafting companies and the Community Pool.

When looking for a job, you need a resume to be able to apply to any job. Students at Cascade High School write and update resumes and cover letters as part of their English classes. These resumes are exactly what an applicant needs to set themselves apart from competition. If you need help with updating a resume or finding a job, CHS College and Career Counselor Ms. Rieke will happily help you with that as well.

In addition to preparing a resume or cover letter, applicants will also want to prepare for their interview. During their freshman year, students practice these. However, it can be helpful to practice immediately before a scheduled interview as well.

Another way to find a job is to walk into stores and see if they're hiring. You can also ask a friend who has a job if they can help you look for one.

Overall, if you want a little extra cash, summer is the perfect time to look for a job, because Leavenworth gets busy during the summer. “I think it's important for everyone to have a job, but I understand if you're just staying home like that's all you're doing maybe that would be a good way to get out and make some money and gain some independence,” said Ms. Rieke.
