Cascade High School offers a diverse range of educational opportunities for students. However, sometimes students find that their current classes do not align with their interests or academic goals. Whether it is due to a change in career aspirations, wanting a different learning environment, or another reason, switching classes can be a crucial decision.  Students must meet with Cascade's guidance counselor Meche Grace before any final decision is made.

“Regarding that Cascade is on a block schedule, classes switch each semester, so you can switch your classes three days into the semester using an ad drop form or if students want to switch prior to the semester, they can meet with me after they check the master schedule and do a credit check,” explained Grace.

Before initiating a class switch, it's crucial for students to reflect on their reasons.  Understanding your motivation will not only help you articulate your request but also help school staff in guiding you to the best possible outcome. Although one thing to keep in mind is that if you want to switch classes due to not liking a teacher or wanting to be with friends there is an incredibly low chance your request will be accepted.

It is important when changing classes, you make sure you still meet all requirements and that you are on the right path for graduation. “You must first do a credit check meaning we look at your transcript and then we transfer that information to the required classes that all students need for a diploma,” stated Grace.

Students can only change classes for the first three days of the new semester.

Your guidance counselor, Ms. Grace, is a valuable resource when considering a class change, so you should schedule an appointment to discuss. You can find her office located in the student services wing or “I am easiest to contact through email if you need to set up a meeting,” said Grace. Make sure when discussing your request, you explain your reasons why you want to switch. More credits? New interests?

If your class switch is approved, prepare for the transition by gathering materials required for this new class, connecting with new peers, and focusing on the adjustment. Be patient with yourself as you acclimate to your new environment and subject matter.

Switching classes at Cascade High School can be a positive step towards achieving your academic and personal goals. By understanding the process, consulting with our guidance counselor and teachers, and preparing for change, students can make informed decisions that foster their educational journey. It is important to take all the right steps in making this decision to make sure it is what’s right for you.
