The annual Cascade High School winter fine arts night took place on Tuesday, December 12th, 2023. The Cascade High School Fine Arts department set up a Holiday Art Market and a Holiday Concert featuring artwork produced in classes and the CHS bands and choirs.
In celebration of the upcoming holidays, CHS bands and choirs played and sung many different Christmas songs. “I loved hearing all the Christmas music and it was especially fun to hear my brother play in the band,” said Scott Lindsay (12).
The Art Market
Before the concert even started, the different CHS art classes, photography and 3D sculpture, planned and set up an art market with the help of Mrs. Dillon, which took place from 6 to 7:15 pm. All students had the opportunity to sell all sorts of different pieces they made during the school year in their class.
“The art market provides an opportunity for students to work on entrepreneurship skills and also to have a goal, from making art to realize that art has value and your effort in time also is worth money,” said Mrs. Dillon.

Students made postcards with images they photographed, sewed stuffed animals, and painted ornaments made of wood, clay, and other materials. Before everything got set up for the market, the students priced their own items, decorated their own tables, and put all the art pieces out on display.
At 6pm the first people started arriving and looked around the market. Some were just looking, and others were buying their kid’s art or art they really liked. The students did not receive their money directly. Instead, the customer had to go to a table at which Mrs. Dillon managed the transactions. All the students received their money in their art class in the following days. All added together, the art classes made around $480 that evening.

“I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of stuff that the kids had to sell, and there were a lot of people that came to buy [the art],” said Mrs. Dillon about the market on Tuesday.
Julian Rivera (11) said that his favorite part about the Art Market “was probably sitting down with my group of teammates and selling and trying to get customers to buy your things.”
The Band Concert
Both the CHS Jazz and Concert bands participated in the concert on Tuesday evening.
After the Tenor-Bass choir opened the night, the jazz band got to perform all the songs they had prepared, which included Jingle Bells, Greensleeves and Winter Wonderland.
“I really liked Winter Wonderland for the jazz band because it was really fun, and I was just like jammin’ with my friends,” said Allie Ward (9). “We had our last concert middle of November, so we had about a month to prepare for all the songs.”
Then the Cascade Treble choir performed, which gave the jazz band a quick break before they went back on stage for the concert band's performance. The concert band played American Bell Carol and See Amid the Winter’s Snow. To close the night, Themes from the Nutcracker was the last song played.

“My favorite part is seeing all the students come together as a team after having spent many weeks and months rehearsing and practicing their parts to put together something that is more than the sum of all the parts put together. And seeing those moments happen live, on stage, in front of people. Those are cool moments, that is what we as performers live for,” said band director Mr. Rowland.
The Choir Concert
The Tenor-Bass and Treble choirs also participated in the concert on Tuesday. The Tenor-Bass choir opened the night with singing Medieval Gloria and continued with singing You are a Mean One Mr. Grinch.

In between the jazz and concert bands' performance, the Treble choir sang Carol of the Bells and Light the Legend. Their last song was Silent Night, which they sung in English, German, and American Sign Language.
“[My favorite part was] getting to see all of our hard work pay off and having a great time with the rest of the choir,” said Treble choir member Paige Runions (11).
