Autumn skies and pumpkin pies

A pumpkin pie is a simple, classic treat for autumn. While its flavor is reminiscent of Halloween, it carries beautifully through Thanksgiving, filling your home with the cozy scents of fall. Making a pumpkin pie is easy—about 15 minutes to prepare and an hour to bake—perfect for creating a seasonal centerpiece that delights friends and family.

a simple, classic treat for autumn.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

  • 2 large eggs

  • 15-ounce can of canned pumpkin or fresh pumpkin puree

  • 12-ounce can evaporated milk

  • 1 unbaked pie shell

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. In a large bowl, beat the eggs and stir in the 15 ounces of pumpkin.

  3. In a separate bowl, combine the sugar, cinnamon, salt, ginger, and cloves. Add this spice mixture to the pumpkin mixture and mix well.

  4. Gradually stir in the evaporated milk until fully combined.

  5. Pour the mixture carefully into the unbaked pie shell.

  6. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 15 minutes. Then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 40–50 minutes, or until the pie is set. The center may look slightly soft, but it will firm up as it cools. Alternatively, check doneness by inserting a sharp knife in the center; it should come out clean.

  7. Cool completely on a wire rack. Serve with whipped cream if desired.

After baking this flavorful pumpkin pie, your friends and family will enjoy a sweet taste of fall. This recipe serves about 12 people, making it perfect for gatherings and celebrations. Enjoy every slice of autumn!
