Boys' Soccer Jamboree

What a save. Goalkeeper Max Spiegel (10) puts on a show in the Jamboree through his brilliant saves and pinpoint distribution. The Jamboree was fun for players, coaches and spectators alike. Boys' soccer started off their season at the annual Jamboree playing against 4A powerhouses Wenatchee and Eastmont. Students, staff, parents, and fans all traveled to the apple bowl to support the Kodiaks in their opening games as they look to bring home significant wins this season.

“We showed that we are a good team against bigger schools, and that we can hold our own against anyone,” stated Benjamin Jerome (11).

The Jamboree is a great way for teams to play competitive, friendly games while gaining experience and helping prepare them for their upcoming seasons. This year's competition was between the Wenatchee Panthers, Eastmont Wildcats, Quincy Jackrabbits, and our Cascade Kodiaks. Both the varsity and junior varsity teams from all schools played two twenty-minute games and put on a show for the hundreds of fans who came to support their respective teams.

The Kodiaks looked to incorporate new players and try out new tactics to improve on their quarterfinals run in the 1A State tournament last year. “My goal for this year is to score a varsity goal and help my team secure the state title,” said Benjamin Jerome (11). This is Ben’s first year playing on varsity, and he is already having an impact on the field for the Kodiaks.

Cascade started off strong in an intense back and forth game against Eastmont. Both teams had chances to take the lead, but Kodiak goalkeeper Max Spiegel (10) came up big making saves left and right to maintain the stalemate. The game continued with tackles, through balls, long shots, and give and gos. Showcasing the beautiful soccer that both teams play. After over fifteen minutes of an intense draw, Eastmont snuck in a goal of a set play. The game ended 1-0 in favor of the Wildcats, but both teams left the field with new insight and smiles on their faces.

The second game for varsity was against the Wenatchee Wildcats, a team that regularly competes in the 4A state tournament. The Kodiaks tried out a new formation switching to four in the back. The game kicked off with the Kodiaks controlling possession and moving the ball side to side. They created many opportunities but could not put one away. Wenatchee had their chances as well, but Cascade’s strong midfield and brick wall in the back let nothing by. The game ended after an entertaining 0-0 draw.

Cascade JV played two great games competing and losing 0-1 against strong sides in both games. Players enjoyed seeing and playing against the teammates from club teams, gaining in-game experience after a break, and ultimately playing the game they love. “We showed that we are a good team against bigger schools, and that we can hold our own against anyone,” stated Benjamin Jerome.

The Jamboree was a successful start to the season and Cascade has built on that success to go 5-0 in their season so far, beating teams such as 2A Ellensburg, rivals Cashmere, and the Chelan Goats. The Kodiaks hope to go far this season and bring home trophies for the school.
