Cascade Cheer Camp

Paola Ramirez (11), Monique Copado (11), and Mariana Fonseca (11) are having fun teaching the cheers to Cohn, Coach Janessa Subido’s son.

The Cascade cheer team brought junior cheerleaders to the high school to come and learn a cheer for the Friday football game Oct 27th. October 23rd was the first day the junior cheerleaders had a meeting with the CHS cheerleaders at the CHS athletic gym. This year’s theme was Lilo & Stitch. Junior Cheer camp is an annual camp that takes place during the football season. “Cheer Camp has been a tradition for many, many years at Cascade and is something our future Kodiaks enjoy, because they get to perform on the big stage under the Friday lights,” explained coach Janessa Subido. This year Junior Cheer camp had over 40 pre-k through 5th graders attend. CHS cheer girls taught campers a series of cheers and chants, how to do jumps, and more.

“I’d say camp went the way we wanted too, it was well organized and there were plenty of activities for the kids. I would encourage kids to join because you get to meet new kids and they got to play with a lot of their friends from school.” Mariana Fonseca (11) also CHS cheerleader agrees it went well and “the kids had a lot of fun,” said Monique Copado (11), a CHS cheerleader.

On the final day of camp, campers performed the dance they learned during halftime of the football game.

Coach Janessa said this is a great after school activity for their age group to participate in for several reasons: “Cheer promotes leadership skills and confidence in athletes, cheer camp is an opportunity for fun, learning new skills, and developing teamwork, high school cheerleaders become mentors to campers and these memories are priceless.”

CHS cheerleaders are back and ready for the junior cheerleaders and will be hosting another camp in January during the basketball season.
