Grizzled Old Men, an entertaining competition between the senior class and local basketball players, has been scheduled for 7:00pm on February 26.
This event, which serves as a fundraiser for the senior class, has been a tradition at Cascade High School since 2008. Tickets will be sold both beforehand, for seven dollars, and at the door, where the price will increase to ten dollars.
In addition to making money through ticket sales, the senior class plans to carry on the half-time “disadvantage” idea initiated last year by the Class of 2024; however, they will be altering the format a bit. Rather than selling each “disadvantage” off individually at half time, the seniors will integrate “disadvantages” whenever certain donation benchmarks are met.
The disadvantages not only helped the seniors to raise additional money, but they were also entertaining for both the fans and participants.
"For as long as I can remember my parents took me to see this game and last year, they changed it so you could purchase disadvantages for the staff team which was fun to watch,” said Will Beibesheimer (12).
“Last year was funny. I ended up getting Saran wrapped to Mrs. Campbell, which I hope doesn't happen again,” said veteran player and CHS Culinary teacher Mr. Haberberger.
The senior record is not strong: in the sixteen years that this event has been held, the seniors have won only once – in 2010. The “Old Men” are determined that this year will not be a second win for the seniors.
“The students are not winning this year. It doesn't matter who's on my team,” said veteran player and CHS Sports Medicine teacher Mr. Betz.
The seniors are not going to go down without a fight.
"This year my goal is to dunk on Mr. Hab,” said Beibesheimer.
“I'd like to see Will try and duck on me, I’ll swat him,” retorted Haberberger.
With the rivalry already heating up, this year is certain to be entertaining. If you want to witness the hoopla and support the senior class, show up on February 26.
