Leavenworth’s newest cafe, Lupine Market and Cafe, is a charming addition to the local coffee scene. This branch of the popular Argonaut Coffee and Biscuits brings its unique vibe to 7375 Icicle Road.

“We are hoping that our space becomes a place for our community to gather and meet with their friends and family around food and drink that is inspiring and delicious,” said owner Lindsey Dahlstrom.

“We are hoping that our space becomes a place for our community to gather and meet with their friends and family around food and drink that is inspiring and delicious,” said owner Lindsey Dahlstrom.

My first impression of Lupine Cafe was delightful. Walking in, you are greeted with a large spread of baked goods, including pumpkin loaves, blondie brownies, scones, and more. The drink menu features a wide variety of beverages such as lattes, espressos, matcha lattes, teas, wine, and beer. The cafe offers “earlier” and “later” menus, covering breakfast and lunch options.

The staff were both polite and friendly, greeting me, answering questions, and engaging with customers.

I sampled a Honey Latte, Cardamom Vanilla Chai Latte, Green Toast, THE Turkey Sandwich, the Crusty Local Grilled Cheese, and a Blondie Brownie.

The Honey Latte was excellent, one of the best cups of coffee I’ve had. The coffee beans were high quality, the honey was sweet and flavorful, and the thick foam held its shape beautifully. A small cup costs $5.28.

The Cardamom Vanilla Chai Latte tasted nice, with a gentle spice that was pleasant. I ordered it iced, which made it slightly diluted; next time, I would try it hot to better enjoy the flavors.

“Lupine Cafe had all the basic coffee shop items, as well as unique offerings that made them stand out. Everything I tried was absolutely delicious, with my favorite being the Green Toast,” said Parker Hollatz (12).

The Green Toast features two pieces of sourdough topped with avocado, scallions, lemon, chili crisp, and an optional soft-boiled egg. The toast had a satisfying crunch without being too hard, and the egg was perfectly cooked. The lemon and chili crisp added a pleasant kick. Price: $12.00.

The Turkey Sandwich is a well-balanced lunch option, with turkey breast, white cheddar, pickles, pickled red onion, lettuce, and mayo on multigrain bread. The acidity of the pickles and onions complements the cheddar and turkey. It comes with a miso-glazed side salad that was both umami and slightly salty. Price: $14.00.

The Crusty Local Grilled Cheese features aged white cheddar, gouda, and miso-braised kale on local sourdough. The bread was perfectly crisp, and the cheeses blended well. I personally would prefer it without the kale, but it remains a tasty snack for $11.

The Blondie Brownie was exceptional, with a caramel and brown butter flavor reminiscent of a brown butter chocolate chip cookie. Its texture was crisp on the outside and chewy inside, with pecans and chocolate chips adding depth.

“The location is intentional; people will mostly seek us out. In the winter, skiers may stop by, and in the summer, adventurers exploring the Icicle area. We prefer serving customers who have intentionally chosen to visit,” said Dahlstrom.

Lupine Market and Cafe is located around four miles south of Leavenworth on Icicle Road, on the Sleeping Lady property. You can check out their menu, hours, and more by visiting their website here
