Co-editor n Chief of Cascade High School’s newspaper and yearbook, drama club enthusiast, captain of the Knowledge Bowl club, senior Paige Runions is a shining star both on the stage and in her everyday life.

As the Co-editor in Chief for the school’s newspaper and yearbook, Paige “can do everything. She’s a great source for staffers to come to; she can write well, she can design well, take a good picture [and] she’s great at interviewing,” said Publications teacher, Ms. Robison.

She is equally dedicated and skilled in helping others on the Publications team develop skills and create their best work. For four years, Paige has helped capture memorable moments here at Cascade High School through photography and writing. She is dedicated to encapsulating the high school experience for her fellow peers. These efforts have paid off, as the yearbook is nationally ranked against larger schools across the country year after year. With this great responsibility, Paige spends many hours outside of school editing and writing to ensure that deadlines are met, and both the yearbook and online paper have received many accolades because of her efforts.

When she is not balancing the heavy load of senior classes, including UW Chemistry and EWU English, or writing articles and captions, Paige finds time to participate in clubs such as Drama and Knowledge Bowl. Paige’s Drama director and teacher, Dwyane Allen, has known Paige since freshman year.

“[Paige] is always up for working behind the scenes, she isn’t always taking the spotlight, and she works hard,” said Allen. Paige’s hard work was displayed as she helped as stage crew many times before securing a major role as the Narrator in the most recent play, Puffs.

“Paige was absolutely perfect for her role. She has the perfect voice and humor and just fits the character so great!” said Reese Mathers (12), a fellow thespian.

Starting her sophomore year, Paige took part in Knowledge Bowl. Now, she leads her team as a captain. Competition season kicked off with the first event on December 2nd, 2024. Paige eagerly anticipates the approaching competitions for her last year.

Clubs and classes aren’t the only thing that keep Paige busy, she has also participated in both cross country and tennis for the duration of her high school years. Her senior cross-country season finished strong with the girls' team taking 7th place at State.

“My favorite memory [of cross country] every year was our overnight trip to Whidbey Island because it’s a really good bonding experience for the team and we have a lot of traditions we get to do each year,” said Runions. She played doubles for varsity tennis last season and looks forward to continuing tennis in her senior year.

Paige not only is a hard worker as earlier described; she is also extremely kind to those around her.

“Everyone enjoys working with Paige,” said Robison.

She truly cares for others and is a very good person to have in your life,” said Dries.

A childhood friend, Mia Dries, has known Paige for almost ten years. “She is the kindest person I’ve ever met. She is always the person I look to when I’m confused or upset, and her grace and empathy always has my back. She truly cares for others and is a very good person to have in your life,” said Dries.

Paige plans on attending Western Washington University and becoming a history and geography teacher.
