Multiple new restaurants have opened up in downtown Leavenworth, one of the standouts is La Javelina. This is a Texas-inspired kitchen, featuring Tex-Mex take out. According to their website they serve, “authentic Texas inspired takeout, tacos and hill country BBQ bites” for fairly affordable prices. They are located at 285 US Highway 2, near Rodolph's Pizza and is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday from 8am-6pm. On Friday and Saturday, they are open from 8am-8pm. Even though there isn't a sit-down option (due to Covid), it's still a fun outing to get take-out and there are options to order online for customers who want to save time. They offer sandwiches, bakery items, tacos, soups, sides, and coffee. Their menu can be found at https://www.lajavelina.com/ and orders can be placed there.

I decided to try out a few of these unique foods myself. The first thing that caught my eye was the Dolly Parton taco dish, it cost $11. It’s a set of 2 decent-sized tacos filled with squash, sweet potato, black beans, egg, cotija, and pickled red onion. While some of these ingredients were totally out of my comfort zone, I'm so glad I tried them – they were delicious. Their unique ingredients made them unlike any tacos I've tried. The vegetables in them really added to the taste and made them a healthier than regular tacos. The Dolly Parton dish is one I'll be getting again and would recommend to anyone.

Next, I tried the Pimento Cheese and Jalapeno Kolache, a semi-sweet yeast dough pastry with pimento cheese and pickled jalapeno. This pastry tasted even better than it sounded. The bread was cooked perfectly, while the filling made it have a special taste. It was the perfect snack size and wasn’t expensive at all, only $4. In fact, after I tried it, I made my dad go order his own, because I knew it was something he would love. Both of us agreed we would be back very soon to order that pastry again and hopefully try some more of their foods.

Overall, this upcoming restaurant is a 10/10 from me! Their extensive menu is unique and unlike anything else in Leavenworth. Grab a friend or family member and try it for yourself, I'm sure you won't be disappointed!

I really like how detailed it was and the writing make La Javelina sound like a pretty good restaurant. I also like how Paige included the other menu options and a link to it so that the reader can know that they have more than just Tex-Mex.

I haven't been to La Javelina yet, but after that review of their kolaches, I think I have to try one!
