As part of Cascade High School’s Homecoming celebrations, students gathered in the gym on Wednesday, October 8, for the annual Powderpuff Volleyball Match. This year, the traditional Powerpuff Football game was cancelled due to unhealthy air quality from regional wildfire smoke. To keep school spirit alive, the volleyball match gave students another way to compete for class pride and Homecoming points.

The game featured junior and senior boys facing off in an intense three-set match. The energy in the gym was electric as players passed, set, and spiked the ball while classmates filled the stands, cheering loudly for their teams. Seniors and sophomores rallied for the senior boys, while juniors and freshmen rooted for the juniors, filling the gym with noise and excitement.

On the sidelines, coaches encouraged their players and offered guidance throughout the game. “To prepare the junior team, we had one practice in the gym; we did drills and also taught them positions,” said junior coach Addie Weaver (11).

Although the junior boys played hard, the seniors claimed the first set. The juniors came back to win the second, but the final and most competitive set ended in a senior victory—earning them the title of 2025 Powderpuff Volleyball Champions.

“I think that if we had one more practice and focused more on form instead of just doing whatever, then maybe we would have won,” said Weaver.

Players reflected on the close match and the importance of preparation. “I think we were prepared mentally, but we only had one practice. I think if we had one more practice and locked in more, then we could have won,” said Julian Feeney (11).

“It was amazing we pulled off the win; we almost won last year, so it was great we won this year. I think we played good and really pulled everything together—it was our best game,” said Arlo Gibbs (12).

The senior team, however, was thrilled with their performance. “It was amazing we pulled off the win; we almost won last year, so it was great we won this year. I think we played good and really pulled everything together—it was our best game,” said Arlo Gibbs (12).

In the stands, students matched the players’ intensity with their cheers. “I was rooting for the junior team. Everyone was loud, so it was exciting to watch, but I think the junior team could have done better—they looked like they were just doing whatever,” explained Paisley Hollatz (9).

With the seniors securing the win and the juniors putting up a strong fight, this year’s Powderpuff Volleyball Match brought out friendly competition, school spirit, and lasting Homecoming memories for everyone involved.
