Craving an amazing, tasty treat? Come downtown to Bites Leavenworth for the best pretzels in town. The perfect combination of doughiness, saltiness and softness are implemented into a recipe to create a perfect treat for any occasion. Beth and Kevin Spiegel, well-respected members of the Leavenworth community, started their business in March and it is gaining popularity and business daily.
Pretzel bites, twisted pretzels, German style pretzels, pretzels shaped in sticks, rods, loops, braids, and much more: Bites boasts a diverse menu to satisfy the wants of all customers. Some of their specialties include the hotdog-stuffed pretzel bites and pretzel dough bread-pudding. Bites sells more than just pretzels too with freshly made hand-pressed coffee being sold as well as slushies and other assorted drinks. “My favorite item on the menu is probably the pretzel bites with hotdogs inside them,” said Max Spiegel (10), son of Beth and Kevin. Max loves the opening of the new business and often helps in any way he can. “I help prep the dough and move things down to the shop when we need,” said Max.
Bites opened in March and kickstarted their business with a March Madness style dipping sauce tournament to find the people's favorite sauce. Community members were given free pretzel bites as a sample coupled with the sauces of the day, votes were cast and the sauce with the most votes moved on. The sixteen “team” tournament started off on March 19th with Dill Pickle taking on Buffalo Blue Cheese, with the first side of the bracket being savory sauces. The second half of the bracket were the sweet sauces including Chocolate Cherry, Peaches and Cream, and Huckleberry as some of the favorites.
“I love the little bites with the sauces, the flavors combine perfectly,” said Miles Porter (10); “My favorite sauce is the artichoke dip.”

The Spiegels are not new to the entrepreneurial business; they have owned a pizza business in Belize for many years. Their time in Belize taught them skills and cultural values that they are now applying into their Leavenworth business.
