Despite expectations of a difficult match, both the boys’ and girls’ tennis teams took the win against the Manson Trojans during an away match on Monday, April 21.

As the Kodiaks took to the courts, Manson’s recent defeat of 2024 district-attending Chelan Goats 6-0 was on many of the players’ minds.

Varsity players were first to compete.  Manson’s undefeated status meant a challenge for the girls; the boys team was expected to be more inconsistent.

Jonas Johnson (12) represented the Kodiaks in the number one singles match and had to put up a strong fight.  Ethan Flansburg (12), the number boys' singles player for the Kodiaks, didn’t face as much of a challenge. “I think it went fine. The person I was playing against wasn’t very good; it was kind of disappointing. It brought me down overall, but I was able to practice my one-handed backhand,” Flansburg said.

“One of our players was kind of outmanned, but he hung in there and played well, and the rest played up to their potential pretty well. We beat Manson 3-2 on the boy's side and the girl's side,” said varsity Coach Hassinger.

Despite the challenging competition faced, both teams fared well and their coach was pleased with their performance. “One of our players was kind of outmanned, but he hung in there and played well, and the rest played up to their potential pretty well. We beat Manson 3-2 on the boy's side and the girl's side,” said varsity Coach Hassinger.

After the varsity wins, the jv players were excited to step on the court, even despite the wind having picked up. “I believe we did well, but sadly we lost. The experience was great I had a lot of fun. If I’m honest, I feel like the wind did affect the way the ball was moving through the game,” Conny Reyes (10), a junior varsity player, said.

The season is coming to an end if you want to come and support the tennis team, the last match will be at Cle Elum High School on May 5th.
