On December 12th the Cascade Kodiaks girls’ and boys’ basketball teams faced Omak head-to-head on the court. Although they came out with a loss, they played competitively and continued to stay energized.
“My vision for this season is to build a bond with my teammates and have a fun time,” said Natalie Sanchez (12).
Varsity girls kept the game tied up throughout the first half and continued to get to the basket after halftime. The score stayed close with Leslie Mata (11) putting up a three early into the game and keeping her defense on lock by putting ball pressure on Omak forcing turnovers. Nora Garcia (11) put in work down low getting offensive boards. Towards 4th quarter, Omak started getting to the basket faster and easier allowing them to score and take the win, making the final score 43 to 35. Even though the girls were let down by 8 points they were still proud about how good they played and the energy that was shown.
Varsity boys also played with energy and heart, but they left the gym with the score of 27 to71. The boys worked together and clicked on the court, being able to break Omak’s full court press. Varsity starter Jonas Johnson (11) helped the team by scoring points and making quick decisions on the court. “My vision for the season this year is for the team to improve, it’s a building year,” stated varsity captain Jonas Johnson (11). Despite the losses, the energy shown from the student section and the players on and off the court was inspiring.
This was just one game out of the many that the Cascade Kodiaks will be playing this season. Both boys and girls hope to see improvement amongst themselves individually and together as a team. The improvement may come from the fundamentals and or the connection on the team. “My vision for this season is to build a bond with my teammates and have a fun time,” said Natalie Sanchez (12).
