Vance Joy is an Australian singer-songwriter that has perfected the art of indie pop/folk music. He has received 13 awards, such as the ARIA music Award for Best Video in 2022 and the Apra song of the year for his song “Riptide.”

I recently had the pleasure of attending a Vance Joy concert and it was an unforgettable experience. The concert was held at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle, Washington. The Paramount is an amazing venue. It has an old-time vibe and is a great example of fanciful and ornamental architecture popularized by the Jazz Age. It was a packed concert, with all of its 2,807 seats occupied by people eager to listen to music they love. The atmosphere was good vibes from the moment we arrived. On the way to the concert, I thought to myself that this concert will be full of people who look like they like to go on hikes and wear shoes as little as possible. I was correct. The opening act was Jack Botts, who is an Australian pop singer. It was very cool to hear an artist I never would have listened to. Jack Botts was great, but as soon as Vance Joy took the stage, the crowd went wild.

He started off with singing some of his most popular songs, such as “Riptide” and “Mess is Mine.” The crowd sang along to every word during every song. He has such a unique voice that sounds even better live than it does over Spotify. He was also very engaging with the crowd, taking time between songs to give personal stories about what inspired some of his songs.

The setlist was perfectly balanced. It had a great mix of upbeat songs such as “Fire and the Flood” and some slower songs such as “I’m with you.” Vance Joy’s band was also fantastic, with each member adding their own unique sound to the show. The lighting and background were also very impressive and colorful. There was an ombre of colors that were constantly changing in the background throughout his set, with beams of light shining down on him. It added to the overall experience, because it really felt like I could see the music, rather than just listening to it.

It took everyone by surprise when we suddenly heard the intro to “Gimme! Gimmie! Gimmie!” Everyone, including myself, got up on their feet and started dancing. This cover of the famous song by ABBA had everyone moving, hooting, and hollering. It was very heartwarming to see how music can connect people. I know that I would have never seen any of the other people at the concert again, and it was cool to know that a bunch of strangers were brought together to the same place to enjoy something that we all love.
