As the month of October comes to an end, many sports seasons are also coming to an end. One of them, girls' volleyball, had an exciting season full of emotions.
This year the team featured seven seniors who dedicated countless hours of hard work over the years to reach their final season of volleyball in high school.
As the calendar inched towards Tuesday, October 22, Senior Night, the team prepared to show the seniors some love.
One of the surprises for the seniors were the speeches. The underclassmen wrote heartwarming speeches for every senior girl on the team. The speeches were read to the seniors after their senior night game. There were also posters made to celebrate these valuable members of the team.
The underclassmen gathered a couple of days before the game to make personalized posters for the girls. In addition, the coaches made baskets full of goodies for the senior players.
"Senior night was really good. I liked having my parents and friends there to support me. I was excited, but sad because it was going to be the last time I ever played in our home court,” said Cacho.
Senior night was held in the high school gym as the Cascade Kodiaks played Toppenish. To start the game, seniors were called down to the center of the court to receive their baskets and greeted by their family members for a family picture. All the seniors were starters in their last home game. The first set started well as players figured out strategies and Toppenish's moves. Senior Karla Cacho was hitting shots against Toppenish effortlessly. Cascade kept up with Toppenish by making smart plays and sticking together.
Senior outside hitter Harper Robbins explains her thoughts on the game: "It was my first game back from being injured, and I think we all played pretty good and rallied with Toppenish the best we could.”
The players supported each other when good and bad plays were made, and along with them, the student section and family members cheered them on.
The second and third sets were intense for the Kodiak girls. Toppenish had figured out their way of playing, making it hard for the girls. The players supported each other when good and bad plays were made, and along with them, the student section and family members cheered them on.
The third set resulted in a loss for the Cascade Kodiaks. The girls came together and congratulated each other on how well they played and senior players gave their last hugs on the court.
