During the last week before Christmas break, Cascade High School kicked it off and celebrates by having a weeklong winter themed spirit week. The week started off with Polar Express, Tuesday was Winter Wonderland, Wednesday was Holiday Apparel, Thursday was Carhart day, and lastly, Friday was dubbed Kodiak Christmas. In addition to encouraging students to dress up, ASB/Leadership provided cocoa at lunch, a school-wide ornament hunt and a sugar cookie decorating event throughout the week.
“I really liked Winter Wonderland, because I got to wear my snow pants and my goggles,” said Kikkan Brine (10).
Cascade High School’s ASB oversees coming up with the themes for each day and when to have the spirit week. Rhetta Cummings (12) who is part of the Leadership class said, “We were trying to come up with unique ones and themes we haven’t done before, but also, we had to keep in mind to make it so people would still dress up. We all voted during an ASB/ Leadership meeting on which ones we wanted.”
The first day of the week was themed Polar Express: students were encouraged to wear their favorite Christmas pajamas and enjoy hot cocoa, served by Executive ASB members, at lunch.
Tuesday was themed Winter Wonderland. Students wore their favorite winter gear: ski clothes, snowboarding gear, hats, snow pants, etc. “I really liked Winter Wonderland, because I got to wear my snow pants and my goggles,” said Kikkan Brine (10).
In addition to the dress-up day, CHS students scoured halls and classrooms to find 30 red ornaments that were hidden throughout campus.
Continuing the week, Wednesday’s theme was Holiday Apparel and students showed up to school in their favorite Christmas sweaters, hats, etc. This is a fun way to bring some holiday spirit into school.
Thursday’s theme was Carhart day. Students were seen dressed up in all Carhart gear “For Carhart day I am wearing a Carhart beanie, a hoodie, and Carhart overalls,” stated Ingrid Stockman (9).
During Flex on Thursday, the entire CHS student body was invited to decorate sugar cookies prepared by Leadership students Marshet Redman (11), Shane Slette (11), and Meghan Haggard (11). The event was well attended, and the cookies and frosting disappeared quickly.
To end the week, Friday was themed Kodiak Christmas. Students dressed in Kodiak and holiday themed clothes to show some Cascade and holiday spirit combined in one day!
Now it's time for students to enjoy their two-week winter break. We’ll see you back at school in 2024!
