ASB Elections

May is one of the busiest months for many students. For seniors, it's their last full month of school; for the rest of the classes, it’s election month. ASB elections, where students select their representatives in a democratic process, are very important for every graduating class. Students in each class have a chance to run for ASB. Some are encouraged by their classmates, while others willingly volunteer.
The process was initiated on Monday, May 14, when ASB applications were due for those intending to run for office. On Friday of the same week, the sixteenth students who were planning on running gathered in Ms. Robinson’s room where they learned about running successful campaigns from local elected officials, recorded speeches, and made campaign posters. Each candidate was paired with a campaign manager, a student from Leadership who was not running for office, who supported candidates with slogan ideas, poster creation, feedback on speeches and general morale boosting. “I decided to do fish quotes for my posters. I thought it would be funny. I also put some dollar bills, because I was running for treasurer, so it made sense. I wanted to run to help the school out and our class. I want to have a good senior trip, and I want our class to make money,” said Cody Salmon (11).

Posters lined the CHS walls for a week before official voting took place on Thursday, May 22 during Flex. After listening to pre-recorded speeches, all students voted for 2025-2026 executive officers and their respective class officers. Ballots were brought to the foyer and placed into a voting box.
While some students were lucky enough to run unopposed, others had to compete for their spot. The Class of 2026 saw a runoff between two candidates for president; the Class of 2027 had three people running to be president; and every position was contested, except for treasurer, for the Class of 2028.
Other students chose to share positions, rather than run against one another. “Running with Arlo Gibbs was always the plan, we both felt that working together would be better than working alone. Teamwork makes the team work. For the 2025-2026 school year, all we want is to make people's voices feel heard. We want to hear from the students and want their feedback on what we should change and improve on,” said Castaneda.
Students, both candidates and members of the graduating classes, were anxious to hear the results.
About ten minutes before the final bell rang, the results were announced:
Executive Board:
President/Treasurer: Arlo Gibbs/Adi Casteneda
Vice President: Micah Wilder
Secretary: Max Speigel
Class of 2026 Officers:
President: Kikkan Brine
