History repeating itself? No, history was being made! On January 2nd Cascade Kodiaks traveled to Entiat and earned the first win in years. Cascade players played their hearts out, which led three out of four CHS basektball teams to a victory.

JV boys took the first W of the night. Everyone worked together and connected on the court, which made getting to the basket and taking shots easier. The boys were hyped that they took the first victory of the night. “It was a pretty big W, and it made me proud that we grinded to win that game,” said Lars Olin (10). This victory wouldn’t have happened so easily if it wasn’t for Bryan Songer (12) and Julian Feeney (9). These two boys helped lead the team by making shots and continuously running up the score. “I think it was a lot of team effort but mostly Bryan Songer and Julian Feeney,” claimed Marshet Redman (11). Even though these two boys helped the most, it was the entire team that made it possible. JV boys started the night off right.

Later on that night, the varsity girls battled Entiat on the court. The girls were hyped up from the start of the game until the very last second. The CHS team showed energy and determination towards this game; they were hungry for a win. Eveyln Sohn (9) said, “I think everybody was a major part in the contribution to the W, mostly the defense helped a lot.” With Leslie Mata (11) and Eveyln Sohn’s defensive skills, the CHS team stopped Entiat. Offensively Cascade showed up and showed out. Maizy Groff (11) took it to the rim and scored layups helping the team keep the score close. Rayen Blue (12) took shots all around the court which helped with the team’s energy and the victory at the end. Rayen Blue claimed, “Leslie Mata encouraged the girls throughout the entire game, telling us to keep hungry the whole time.” With all the team effort and energy, the girls came out with their first win of the season, with hopes of more.

It didn’t stop there; the night continued to get more competitive. The varsity boys put up a close fight with their opponents. The energy was shown through the players, the coaches and especially the “student section” that showed up to support Cascade. “Winning felt great, getting the first win of the season felt awesome. It was a close game so that made it feel even better,” stated varsity boys captain Jonas Johnson (11). The game was tied with just a couple of seconds left, and Jonas came in clutch with a drive to the basket to draw the fouls. Jonas stepped to the free throw line, with the game in his hands, giving Cascade a two-point lead with only seconds left. Ezra Week (10) noticed: “Obviously Jonas [secured the win]; if he didn’t make those free throws we would’ve lost.” Everyone in the gym was on the edge of their seats after the free throws were made, since Entiat still had some time to put up a shot, but they didn’t. The players were excited to get their first win when everyone boarded the bus, they brought a total of three wins home with them.
