Tuesday March 18th was the girls' first softball game of the 2025 season. The Cascade Kodiaks faced off against the Waterville Shockers.
The home game began with strong defense played by the Kodiaks. Another highlight was the pitcher, Kaylee Lewis (11), who handled the first out by throwing a grounder and got the next two batters out with strikeouts to end the inning.
On offense, Isabel Davelaar (9) earned an RBI when she knocked Edith Perez Vazquez (9) in off a deep ball and ran all three bases earning the Kodiak girls a point.
“I think we did good. We all worked well together, and a highlight was when I hit a triple. It was the best part of the game,” said Davelaar.
Another great highlight was Taila Stein (12) hitting a homerun.
“It felt great. It's the first game I've played since sophomore year. I'm super happy to be back out on the field and getting prepared for college,” explained Stein (12).
Many parents and staff were there to support their Kodiaks for their first game of the season.
Former coach Todd Fraker was present supporting the girls: “I felt great that we had a lot of girls playing and I think Coach Merriman will do a great job with them.”
The girls ended up losing the game 16-6 but played very well and fought all the way until the end. With this kind of spirit, it is certain that they will get a win soon.
