Senior in the Spotlight: Jasmine Barragan-Castro

Jasmine is a bright student known for her admirable smile and genuine, joyful laugh. She is actively involved in the Mecha and Unidos clubs, plays as a defender for the girls’ soccer team in the fall, and serves as a manager for boys’ soccer in the spring. “All of these things bring me joy to be a part of such a great community,” said Jasmine.

Throughout her high school experience, Jasmine is most proud of being a varsity soccer player and earning her athletic letter. Her favorite senior event has been Soak-A-Senior. Outside of school, Jasmine enjoys doing nails. “I hope to go to nail school and become a nail tech. Growing up, I would always paint my mom's nails and paint my own,” she said. Her advice for underclassmen is: “Keep going and refuse to give up. The teachers are there to push, assist, and help students accomplish their goals.”

Senior in the Spotlight: Gavin Haiduc

ree

Gavin is known for his funny jokes and outgoing personality. He helps as an office TA during second period and serves as a 30-Minute 2 Win It leader, a role that allows him to encourage freshman students to be more outgoing and comfortable at CHS.

Gavin is proud of maintaining a 4.0 GPA, which reflects his ability to balance schoolwork and life outside of school. He constantly puts effort into both academics and extracurriculars. His favorite senior event so far has been Soak-A-Senior, and he is looking forward to Mr. Kodiak because he is excited to watch his friends participate in fun challenges. Gavin has developed an interest in drawing through traveling and reading, which inspires his creative ideas.

His advice for underclassmen is: “Be passionate about what you like.”

Senior in the Spotlight: Kat Kocher

Kat is known for her sense of humor and outgoing personality, making her a joy to be around. Over her years at Cascade High School, she has been involved in cheer, wrestling, soccer, and softball. “It has made me a more outgoing person,” said Kat.

Among her many accomplishments, Kat’s favorite moments have been winning matches during her wrestling career. Her favorite senior event so far has been Soak-A-Senior. “It’s my favorite because my dad came with his fire crew and dumped water on me,” she said. Earlier this year, wrote an article about Kat and her performance at the Chelan County Fair. Click here if you want to learn more about Kat.

Outside of school, Kat participates in showing livestock at county fairs. Her advice for underclassmen is: “Do not be lazy and complete all the work handed to you during class.”

Senior in the Spotlight: Wyatt Rutherford

Wyatt is adventurous and curious, with a passion for nature. Through his Natural Resources class, he explored Cyprus Island, learning about local animals and plants.

Wyatt has previously earned Student of the Month awards. “It was cool because out of all people I won,” he said. He is eagerly anticipating the senior trip. Wyatt enjoys taking walks in the forest, an interest that developed when he “finally realized how pretty the wilderness is.” His advice for younger students is: “Don’t procrastinate.”

Senior in the Spotlight: Eli Sauer

Eli is actively involved in sports including baseball, football, track, and wrestling. Participation in these activities has helped him develop discipline and a strong work ethic. One of his favorite hobbies outside of school is weightlifting, which he began after participating in summer football training during his freshman year.

Eli has faced challenges due to chronic kidney disease, which kept him out of school for two weeks at the start of his junior year. Catching up and passing his classes was a major accomplishment. “I was in children’s hospital for two weeks after we started our junior year for health issues, and I was really behind,” he said. His favorite senior event was Soak-A-Senior, and he is looking forward to graduation. His advice for underclassmen is: “Try and stay ahead of school.”

Senior in the Spotlight: Yasmin Torres Murillo

ree

"Yasmin is a very responsible and professional—overall a polite girl,” said Ms. Peterson. “Caring, authentic,” added Ms. Fonseca. Yasmin is an important member of the Mecha and Unidos clubs. She shared, “It has impacted me in being more involved with the student body and helped not just the school but my grade by including everyone and fundraising.”

So far, Yasmin’s favorite part of senior year has been Soak-A-Senior because of the fun it provided and for kicking off the festivities of her final year of high school. Outside of school, Yasmin enjoys writing about her life and week, a relaxing hobby she adopted from a previous English class. Her advice for underclassmen is: “Do not leave assignments for the last minute; procrastination is not a good idea.”

Senior in the Spotlight: Zoe Warman

Zoe is an energetic, joyful, and kind student. She helped with concessions at the homecoming game. “I enjoyed it a lot because of the fast-paced environment,” she said.

Zoe has also taken steps to prepare for her future by writing her college essay in English, completing her FAFSA, and filling out the Common App. One of her favorite senior events this year was the soccer and football senior nights, as she enjoyed seeing her friends receive the recognition they deserve.

Zoe enjoys drawing in her free time, though she modestly notes, “I’m not that good at it.” Her advice for younger students is: “It’s okay to fail sometimes. You’re going to fail at things throughout your entire life, so you shouldn’t be afraid of it.”
