Seniors in the Spotlight

Jonah Bowles 


Jonah Bowles is known for his calm demeanor and composed personality. Jonah was involved in Power Puff. “It was fun and exciting to play with my fellow seniors,” said Bowles. Jonah is kind and personifies self-improvement through working out and his interest in discovering new things. One accomplishment Jonah is proud of is winning Power Puff with all his senior friends. 


Jonah’s favorite senior event so far was the Senior Sunrise. “It was my favorite because I got to be with my friends in the mountains and in the morning,” said Bowles. With Senior Sunrise behind him, Jonah now looks forward to the senior trip at the end of the year. In his free time, Jonah enjoys cooking and cooks a variety of things. Among a few, he is considered to be a three-star Michelin chef. 


Jonah’s advice for underclassmen is: “Save money and participate in school events.” 


Noah Copson 


Noah Copson is a very athletic student who has been involved in a variety of sports, including football, track, basketball, cross country, and wrestling. Noah has a good sense of discipline, and through these sports he was introduced to a fun community of people. Noah is proud of this year’s football team doing better than last year’s football team. 


Noah enjoyed being dunked in icy water by all his friends and family for Soak-A-Senior. Noah is looking forward to graduation. He is a very adventurous person who likes to spend his free time mountain biking. Noah also spends his free time working out and exploring new activities. 


Noah’s advice for underclassmen is: “Don’t make your teachers angry.” 



Cordelia Freeland 


Cordelia is a very involved and passionate student who has participated in the Technology Student Association, Associated Student Body, and sports such as soccer, track, and basketball. Through these experiences, Cordelia has become a problem solver and learned sportsmanship and leadership skills, all because of her outgoing personality and passion to be involved. One accomplishment she is most proud of is being the team captain for both soccer and basketball. She is also proud of being voted senior homecoming princess. 


Cordelia’s favorite event so far was Senior Sunrise: “It was super fun to get together with everyone and camp out then wake up to an awesome sunrise.” She is looking forward to Senior Sunset and graduation. Adding to Cordelia’s unique personality, one thing she loves to do is go ski touring. “I’ve always loved skiing and about two years ago my dad got me a touring setup and I loved it,” said Freeland. 


One piece of advice Cordelia has for underclassmen is: “Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Your teachers and counselors have so many ways to make your tasks easier to accomplish. Also join a sport! It will teach you good discipline and make you so much more connected to others.” 


Vanessa Ibarra 


Vanessa Ibarra is a very hardworking and actively involved student. “I have been a part of Publications for three years and I’m currently the newspaper editor. I have also been a part of M.E.Ch.A all four years, and I’m currently treasurer for the club as well. I’m also a part of Unidos,” said Ibarra. The accomplishments she is most proud of are her grade improvements since freshman year. “I’m most proud of my grades freshman year because I struggled with my grades,” said Ibarra. 


Ibarra says that her favorite senior event was Soak-A-Senior. “My favorite senior event was Soak-A-Senior because it was just fun to soak people. I’m looking forward to a lot of senior events; my top event is probably our senior trip.” A hobby that she has outside of school is baking. “One hobby I have is baking. I developed interest when I started baking simple recipes. I just kept trying new recipes,” said Ibarra. Her advice to underclassmen is: “Focus on your grades and push yourself to try new things,” said Ibarra. 



Gretchen Leach 


Gretchen Leach is a very hardworking and involved student. She has participated in Leadership, drama, choir, tennis, and ASB. “Being involved so heavily in school has helped me to deeper admire my community and equip me with interpersonal skills that will help me out in college and later in life,” said Leach. One of her accomplishments was getting more than 750 community service hours, showing how much she loves to work and help others. 


Leach has enjoyed going to Young Life outside of school since she was in sixth grade and has been a Young Life leader since she was a freshman. “I started going because my mom was a leader,” said Leach. Her favorite senior event was Soak-A-Senior. “I loved Soak-A-Senior because it was really chill, fun to see so many people from the community, and made us lots of money,” said Leach. Her advice to underclassmen is, “Be at your own speed, and worry about yourself,” said Leach. 


Bulmaro Oropeza 


Bulmaro, who is known by many as Jr, is known for his welcoming personality and kind gestures, making him an easy person to talk to. Bulmaro has helped organize and collect clothes for the Community Closet: “It impacted me by knowing I’m helping people who need stuff.” 


Bulmaro is also very confident and is mostly proud of his upcoming graduation with the excitement of leaving high school. His favorite senior event so far was Senior Sunrise because: “I was around my friends,” he said. Bulmaro is looking forward to the senior trip. He enjoys watching Star Wars and building Legos. “I developed these interests because I grew up with Legos and got into Star Wars by watching it in chronological order,” said Bulmaro. 


His best piece of advice for underclassmen is: “Lock in.”
