Thursday, October 25th was the last time CHS senior football players would play on their home field in hopes of continuing their winning streak and increasing their record to 5-2. For senior cheerleaders, this marked their final time rooting for their home team at the Peshastin-Dryden sports complex.

The Kodiaks took on the Omak Pioneers in a Caribou Trail League matchup for Cascade football and cheer senior night. Football seniors William Biebeshiemer, Ethan Flansburg, Artie Northrup, Trail Heyl, Jackson Feeney, Trenton Holland, Amiano Coronado, and Olen Shultz were announced and ran across the field to be crowned by their loved ones.  Senior cheerleaders, Sofia Oropeza, Mariana Fonesca, Monique Copado, Paola Ramirez, and Jocelyn Olguin, were also recognized in a similar fashion.

The matchup kicked off as an intense end-to-end game and the game remained scoreless until deep into the first quarter when Milo Gibbs (9) kicked a field goal to take the lead for the Kodiaks.

Once I noticed the bite, I planted my foot creating space and I was wide open for the pass.  I knew it was probably going to be my last touchdown at our home field, so I put my hands up and celebrated with my brother,” said Feeney.

The game continued as a hard-fought battle, as the seniors went out with a bang putting in solid performances all around. Jackson Feeney produced the highlight of the game as he caught a pass deep in the Pioneer’s endzone for a Kodiak touchdown.

“I knew it was going to be a big play coming out of the huddle. I took off and pretended the ball was already in the air by looking my defender off. Once I noticed the bite, I planted my foot creating space and I was wide open for the pass.  I knew it was probably going to be my last touchdown at our home field, so I put my hands up and celebrated with my brother,” said Feeney.

The game ended in a Kodiak defeat with a score of 9-40, but the team played some beautiful football and put on a show for all the Kodiak fans.

Star quarter-back Will Biebeshiemer took the loss especially hard. “We fought, but came up short. As soon as the buzzer sounder we all broke down, all the emotions hit me, and it was an indescribable feeling of disappointment,” said Biebeshiemer.

Making the loss more bearable was the adorable half-time performance of the cheer squad with aspiring elementary and middle school cheerleaders.

Captain Sofia Oropeza reflects on her time as a cheerleader: “I feel like cheer isn't all about routines or pep rallies, it’s about the memories and bonds you create with the people around you. I will always cherish the friendships and the moments that made cheer unforgettable.”

All the seniors will be missed but not forgotten.  They bettered many underclassmen as people and leave behind memories that will live on at Cascade. The Kodiaks take on the Chelan Goats on Friday November 1st in hopes of taking home second place in the CTL and making a run in the district and state tournaments.
