From National Merit Scholar finalist to All-American Nordic skier, Senior Caroline Menna has truly done it all. She is an inspiration to all her upcoming editors in the Publications program and a role model for young skiers who watch her race. Whether its being a student, friend, daughter, sister, skier, or intern, Caroline excels at everything she does.

A significant role that Caroline has played at Cascade High School has been that of editor-in-chief for the school newspaper and yearbook. Caroline has been working with the newspaper and yearbook for her entire high school career. During her junior year she served as a junior editor and in her senior year, she was earned the role of editor-in-chief. In this capacity, she strives to make the yearbook and newspaper the best they possibly can be and has led the team to multiple state and national titles.

She has been awarded individually as well and earned the American Scholastic Press Association award in national investigative journalism for her article Does Icicle Creek have enough water to meet Leavenworth future needs?

It is Caroline’s job to ensure that the entire program runs smoothly.  Caroline puts in long nights editing articles and tiring mornings fixing spreads.

“[I have known Caroline for four years. When she wasn't able to take Publications as a class, she took it as a zero-hour. She completes tasks with efficiency and attention to detail.  She is good at giving people very pointed feedback to help them; she has a real talent with looking at an incoming staffer and recognizing exactly what feedback they need,” said Ms. Robison, Publications advisor.

Caroline has also excelled at sports. She has been skiing for Plain Valley Nordic Ski team for ten years. She is currently ranked second in her US Cross Country racing age group and is a six-time cross country ski All-American. She was awarded the Ulland Award for Outstanding Nordic Competitor of the Year in the Pacific Northwest Division; Plain Valley Nordic Team Skier of the Year 2023-24

Caroline also excels at cross country running. She served as the captain of the CHS cross-country team and was named league runner-of-the-year in 2022, 2023 and 2024.

We could always count on her to have a good solid race and help the team out.

“As a freshman she was already really fast, she had always been skiing and running, she was always in good shape. She was our second fastest runner her freshmen year. Caroline hurt her foot during a race, so she wasn't able to finish out her freshman season, sophomore and junior year she was our fastest, she was league champion. She is extremely consistent; fast in every race. We could always count on her to have a good solid race and help the team out. Senior year was her best year, clearly by times. Even from freshman year she was always a leader, she had a really strong work ethic, she always tried really hard. She always set a good example, then in her senior year, the same thing, she always encouraged the other girls,” said Mr. Massy, the CHS cross-country running coach.

She is also part of Icicle Bicycle and races in the Washington Student Cycling League races. She was the 2024 Washington State Varsity Girls Championship runner-up.

She also competes in track and field.  She was awarded 1600m/3200m First Team All-League and Division in 2022 and 2023.  She attended the state meet in 2022 and 2023 and was a varsity letterman both of those years.

Along with extracurricular activities and sports, Caroline also is an academic superstar:  she’s been awarded for her academic excellence every year and made the honor roll all four years of high school. She is ranked number one in her class, and she is also a Washington state nominee to United States Presidential Scholarship program. She is a US National Merit Scholar semifinalist. She has earned the designation of AP Scholar with Distinction and AP  AP Scholar with rs and is a Cameron Impact scholarship finalist. She is fluent in French, captain of CHS’s state champion Knowledge Bowl team and current president of the high school Sustainability Club.  not surprisingly, she is ranked number one in her class. She’s also been recognized by the College Board and received small-town recognition for outstanding academic achievements.

After she graduates, she plans to go on and ski for Dartmouth College.

Among all her outstanding achievements, Caroline is always a kind face to see.
