Throughout her four years at Cascade High School, Leslie Mata has left her mark; whether that is in the classroom teaching freshman how to succeed in high school or on the field leading her soccer team to a victory. Leslie has been involved in many sports, clubs and classes at CHS, including METChA, 30minit2winit, Interact, basketball, soccer and managing the boys’ soccer team.

Throughout her years of involvement, she has been recognized for many of her amazing qualities. Leslie is a hardworking, motivated individual, who many people are excited to see do great things.

Soccer has been a huge part of Mata’s life and she has been an important part of her team for all four years. Playing through rain or shine, she pushes herself to be better every game and practice. She is a kind and supportive teammate, who uplifts the team.

“As the fall season unfolds, one name shines brightly on the girls' soccer team: Leslie Mata. In her senior year, Leslie has not only demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication on the field but has also emerged as a true leader and role model for her teammates. What sets Leslie apart is her innate ability to connect with her teammates. She approaches every practice and game with a positive attitude, always considering the feelings and needs of others. Her empathetic nature fosters a supportive team environment where everyone feels valued. Leslie’s encouragement and understanding have made a significant impact, helping her teammates feel more confident and united. As a senior, Leslie's influence extends beyond her immediate contributions. She has become a role model for younger players, embodying the values of hard work, teamwork, and respect. Her leadership style inspires others to step up and find their own voices within the team, creating a legacy that will resonate for years to come. In a sport where collaboration is key, Leslie Mata stands out not just for her athletic abilities, but for her heart and spirit. As the season progresses, her contributions will undoubtedly continue to shine, making her a beloved figure in the girls' soccer program. Whether on or off the field, Leslie exemplifies what it means to be a true team player,” exclaims CHS Athlete Director Tim Barnes.

The bond Mata has made with her AVID family is something she will miss the most about leaving and she will carry that bond for life. She is grateful for each of them and school would not have been the same without them.

“She has always been very dedicated and very focused on her goals. She works really hard; she always goes above and beyond. [She is] always going the extra mile,” said CHS AVID teacher Mrs. Renner-Singer.

Leslie has also been part of METChA for three years; and secretary for one. She is always helping to keep the club running smoothly.

After graduating she plans to go to a four-year university where she plans to major in elementary education.

“I’m looking most forward to being able to branch out from the town on my own and start a new little chapter of my life. Furthering my education and exploring more,” said Mata.

Leslie has also touched many hearts while here at CHS. She will continue to make a difference wherever she chooses to go next.
