Benjamin Jerome: dedicated student, avid cross-country athlete, varsity soccer player, and heart of the school. Ben is a role model and well-respected by students and staff alike. You may see Ben taking photos at a football game, wandering around the halls in third period, or stressing about his cross-country race; these actions make Benjamin who he is.
Ben has one of the most inspirational sports stories in Cascade High School history. From a JV cross country athlete running a time of 27:01, to going on a journey of hard work and dedication becoming the captain of the cross-country team, a two-time first team all-league honors, and District V and Caribou Trail League MVP. Ben brought his 5k personal record down by over 10 minutes, ending his senior season with a 21st place finish at 1A State, with a time of 16:37.
“Ben has grown amazingly, he started out not in great shape or as the best runner, but he was willing to work hard. He put in the work especially junior and senior year, and he was one of the best runners we’ve ever had at Cascade,” said cross country coach Mr. Massey.

Not just an athlete, Benjamin is a hardworking student: holding a leadership position as the Publications team Photo Editor, being a two-time student of the month winner, two-time publications photo of the year winner, maintaining a high GPA, and taking many rigorous college courses. “In publications Benny brings a lot of positive energy to the team and is very efficient in doing his job, as well as making people remember to have fun during their work, which is important. I'm proud of him and all of his achievements. It's been amazing to see him grow from a freshman to where he is now and I'm excited to see where he goes with his life,” yearbook advisor Ms. Robison said.
Ben is a multi-sport athlete, with soccer being another one of his passions. Being a part of the varsity squad that took 3rd place at state his junior year: the best finish in CHS soccer history. Ben took 2nd team all-league honors his senior year, becoming a key part of the team. “Ben has had a meaningful impact in my life, he is a great role model, and I strive to be like him and hold to his morals. He has become one of my closest friends over the years,” close friend and teammate Jaxson Groby (12) said.
Benjamin is the heart of the school and always brings a smile to the faces around him. As he checks his Garmin watch one last time, we look back at all the memories created and jokes made with him. He will be missed at Cascade, as he heads off to California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo to major in Nutrition.
