Angel Sandoval, teammate, student, friend; one of many seniors at Cascade High School who embodies what it means to be a student-athlete and a great leader in the classroom and the soccer field. Senior Angel Sandoval is an inspiration to many, a great student, a committed wrestler, and the Cascade Soccer team’s captain and leading scorer.

Angel might be best known for his feats as an athlete, but that isn’t all that he excels at. Many teachers have positive remarks to say about Angel, especially his AVID instructor Mrs. Malia Renner-Singer. “Angel is like the quiet student in class who is getting every answer right, without anyone around him realizing he is getting the answers right. He is not the type of person to brag about getting the answers right, he is going to be the quiet one doing a really great job without drawing any attention to himself,” said Renner-Singer.

Angel is a humble, hard worker who does not seek attention for himself.  This is one of the values that helps Angel be a great soccer player and captain.

Ryan Denega (12) has been a friend and soccer teammate to Sandoval since the start of fifth grade. “Angel has been there since day one, and has my back on and off the field. Over the top I can always send him long balls and rely on him to put it in, he is a lethal scorer. I am more than happy to have him as a captain with me,” said Denega. This year alone Angel scored twenty-five goals for the Cascade Boys soccer program, he was named Caribou Trail League MVP and first team all-league and has been influential in the Kodiak’s 2024-25 state run.

“I would say he is determined and resilient as he had lofty goals for himself, and his teams and he was a catalyst in making sure those goals were met,” said assistant soccer and wrestling Coach Raul Mata.

Sandoval’s mentality also helps him t strive in any form of endeavor.  “I would say he is determined and resilient as he had lofty goals for himself, and his teams and he was a catalyst in making sure those goals were met,” said assistant soccer and wrestling Coach Raul Mata.

Angel is a stellar athlete, person and student. Cascade is lucky to have hosted his talents these past four years and excited to see where these talents take him in the future.
