Cascade High School’s very own Senior, Cameron Ostrem is known all around the school for his friendly and hardworking attitude. He never fails to make people feel welcomed and known.
Cameron participates in three varsity level sports: football, basketball and baseball. Senior Cole Warnaca, one of his good friends and teammates, said, “As a student athlete and playing football, basketball, and baseball at the varsity level, he has a lot on his plate every year. But somehow always gets the job done.” Cam never fails to do his best. His basketball coach and weights and conditioning teacher Paul Fraker shared, “I always look forward to seeing Cam in my Weights & Conditioning class. He is motivated to make himself into a better athlete each day. I admire that quality in Cam. This is Cam’s senior year in basketball, and he has put in a lot of work in the off-season to improve his individual skills. He will be missed in the weight room and on the basketball court next year!” Cam’s eagerness to stay motivated and work hard to better himself as an athlete is truly inspiring. He will be a huge asset for the upcoming basketball season.
Cam was a tremendous strong point for the football team this season. His coach Dominique Coffin shared that, “Cameron Ostrem is an extremely kind and determined student-athlete. Cam is always willing to go out of his way for others and put the teams needs first. For example, in football we needed some more defensive tackles and without hesitation Cam moved to defensive tackle to do what was best for the team. He is always one of the first to help out younger students or athletes and always wants to see everyone in the school or on his team be successful. I know that Cam will be highly successful in the future because he has many talents and traits to help him for the next chapter of his life.” Cam is one of those kids that coaches love, because he listens to and applies feedback and he’s also loved by other athletes, because he’s always positive and a team player. He is always putting people before himself and doing what is right for everyone.
Along with football and basketball Cam plays baseball. He is 3rd baseman and leader for his team. His teammate sophomore Breaden Parton said, “Cam is just the guy you want on your team and there is nothing bad about him!” Breaden explained that Cameron is an excellent team player; he helps lead the team and makes sure everyone is involved in the drills. Sophomore Jones Duncan, another one of Cam’s baseball teammates, shared a story of when Cam hurt his ankle badly but still played on it. Then he continued to play on it in the next game. Cameron is such an amazing and talented athlete and never gives up, he is always driving to be the best he can in sports.
Cam is going to attend Boise State University next year, he received the Wue Scholarship with the good grades he has gotten throughout his high school career. Cam has always stayed up on his studies and done very well in school. His English teacher Ms. Rosenfield said, “Cam is so much fun to have in class. He has a great work hard/play hard attitude; he is never afraid to ask questions or put effort in, but he's also the first to crack a joke. He keeps class both productive and pleasant.” “Cameron has been such an incredible contributor to Publications and Leadership this semester,” said teach Ms. Robison. “He is always there to help with a positive attitude. He has a unique voice and expertise that no one else on our team has. I absolutely love having Cam in class.” One of his classmates Sasha Morgan shared that, “Cam is always super nice to everyone.” Cameron is a genuine person and never hesitates to ask someone how they are doing.
Outside of school Cam loves to go fishing and play basketball, in the wintertime he goes up to Fish Lake near Lake Wenatchee and goes ice fishing with his friend Cole Warnaca. Along with in the summertime he takes fishing trips with his dad or friends. Cole Warnaca said that “his real friends know that he prefers to be called ‘Cam Magic’.” This all came about when Cam played a really good JV game and someone called him Cam Magic, because there’s this good NFL quarterback named Fitzgerald, but he goes by Fitz Magic. From then on the nickname has stuck but mostly because Cam will never let anyone forget about it.
In addition to all of this, Cam has worked for his church for many years and done community service for them. He is a great helper if there is someone in need, he is there to help. Cam is always down for a little backroad, windows down, country music blaring, drive.
Cameron Ostrem is an all-around amazing athlete, student, friend, helper and just overall an outstanding guy. He can be counted on to bring school spirit and positivity in any aspect or situation. He will be greatly missed by the Kodiak Family next year.
