This month’s student in the spotlight is Emma Warman, a hard-working athlete who puts her all into everything she does. She plays soccer, basketball, and is still able to find time for doing well in classes and having an active social life.
This year, Emma is planning to be involved in soccer and basketball; she is very excited to practice in person. She is looking forward to being able to hang out with her friends and practice her skills during the upcoming open practices. Javier Reyna, the girls' varsity soccer coach, said that, “During practice, Emma is one of those players that will never give up and will give 100% with a big smile on her face.” Emma gives it her all during games, and even during practice. Emma has been dedicated to the sport; she said, "I play left defense and I have been playing for about eight years. I like the running and competition involved in soccer.” As a player, Javier says that Emma’s biggest strength is, “Being coachable and able to overcome adversity.”
Emma is a player who can easily adapt while playing, and takes advice, which is essential in soccer, and basketball. Emma has been playing basketball for a long period of time: “I am the point guard in basketball and have played for five years.” Her favorite part of basketball is the games. “They are fun,” she explained.
Emma has a very active social life and is always hanging out with her friends. “I like to hang out with friends a lot. We like to go to Wenatchee and go shopping, especially at Target and Marshalls. Last time I went shopping I bought a mirror for my room.” Among her friends, Emma is known as a very silly person: she is always cracking jokes and laughing. Giselle Navarro, a fellow sophomore and one of Emma’s closest friends, described her as, “A fun person to be around and down for anything.” Her friends admire Emma for her humor and optimism. Giselle spoke of how Emma, “lives in the moment,” and how she is inspired to do the same when they are together. It is clear that Emma has made a lasting impact on her friends and many others at Cascade High School.
Emma carefully balances her social and school lives. After a long morning of Zoom calls, Emma takes a nap to help her recuperate and prepare for the rest of her day. Emma does not enjoy learning online and prefers being in school so that she can be with her friends. Emma is most definitely hopeful at the prospect of being able to go back to school in person soon.
In school or virtually, Emma is a beloved at student Cascade High School. “She is an absolute pleasure – she is always well-mannered and willing to ask for help if she needs it,” said her English teacher and advisor Ms. Robison. Emma enjoys all of her classes, but math is her favorite: “It is fun for me; I like the difficulty in it.”
Emma is most definitely an inspiring and optimistic friend, and someone who is very down to Earth, whether it be on the soccer field or in the classroom, she works hard and aims to be the best that she can possibly be.
