Student in the Spotlight: Jack Wagman

A dedicated student, Jack Wagman (12) is known for his fascination with science and drive to learn. Jack has only been at Cascade for a short time; before that he “was originally in Redmond… moved to Kirkland for two years while [his] house here was being built.” Wagman continued: “I normally think of my time in Kirkland as just a temporary stop between Redmond and here. I moved here right at the start of Covid, but finished my sophomore year online at my old school. I officially started here junior year.” Despite this he has managed to take many college classes in the high school. However, this has “made it hard” to join many clubs or sports besides CHS Publications. Two of his favorite classes have been “U.W. chemistry with Mr. Stubbs, because I love diving into little rabbit holes, and psychology with Mr. Allen,” said Wagman. Two other classes that Jack has taken are physics and astronomy, both taught by Mr. Massey, who said of Jack: “He is always very engaged, he pays attention, and he contributes a lot in class. He’s very into science and is really good at it. He’s really really good at fact checking, and he’s always finding good information and sharing.”

Outside of school, Jack said he splits “between just learning anything I can, I love learning new things, playing games with friends, and just getting outside. I love the forest and river here.” Senior Jason Leach, one of Wagman’s best friends, states that Jack is “a good problem solver, and a very hard worker. He knows what he wants from life. He is ambitious, inquisitive, doesn’t hesitate to say what he thinks. Jack is the smartest person I know. We’ve had physics, psychology, and ASL together.” Jack said one of his favorite times with friends was “Jacob’s birthday last summer up until the incident we don’t talk about.” After high school, Jack’s plans involve attending Montana State University to major in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Aerospace. He said this is “a first shot plan. It's either that or teaching.” Another friend of Jack’s, Jacob Hendricks (12), said “he is fun, weird, and energetic. My favorite memories of him are every day junior year he would bring a big bag of Dum Dums and hand them out to everyone.” Despite his short time at Cascade, Jack has left his mark on this school and will be missed next year.
