Senior Jerome Jerome is a meaningful part of the Cascade High School community. When not in class, Jerome enjoys being a leader in his school sports, including soccer and cross-country. As captain and varsity goalie of the boys soccer team, Jerome is someone who leads by example.
Jerome’s coaches too have only good things to say about him. His teacher and running coach Mr. Massey describes his character as “always interactive, curious, involved, interested, and thoughtful.” As a teammate, fellow varsity cross-country senior Zoe McDevitt feels that “Jerome is such a leader and is very uplifting to everyone around him. He was super encouraging and made running fun for the whole team during cross-country! He will do amazing things in his life and is very passionate about everything he does.”
Fellow varsity runner Landon Davies had a more lighthearted answer, stating “He makes following the rules attractive.” Why? Because that’s who Jerome is.
Outside of school, Jerome fishes and hunts ducks with his dad and his family’s dogs June and Winston. With this group, Jerome has found a way to enjoy nature since he was very little.
During the off season from his other sports, Jerome enjoys mountain biking with friends like Stella Johnson. Johnson describes Jerome as “someone who is always there. He will always listen to people and is pretty much the definition of a great friend. Anyone who gets to know Jerome is better off because of it.”
In what little free time he has left, Jerome passionately works on the yearbook and student newspaper at CHS as an editor. Here, he is a huge part of making the yearbook look it’s best and being sure all captions are accurate. While these are huge parts of his role as editor, Jerome is an even better photographer. In fact, he recently placed 5th in a national photo competition. Through attending school events, Jerome has been able to hone his craft. He has also taken many senior photos for the ‘21 seniors.
Publications advisor Ms. Robison said, “Jerome internalizes the goals of Publications and truly cares about making every Kodiak student feel valued by featuring them in our Publications. He works relentlessly to make the yearbook and newspaper a gift for the Kodiak community and we are lucky to have had him.”
In the classroom, Jerome is a student that teachers all have good things to say about. He has challenged himself with plenty of college credits in the high school including UW Pre-Calculus, UW Calculus, EWU Composition 101, EWU Chicano Studies, EWU English 4 and EWU US History. Just as impressively, he still has a 4.0 GPA. All these credits are of course impressive. So are the things current and former teachers have to say about him. Jerome’s former Spanish teacher Ms. Guzman called him “Passionate, determined, focused, driven, relentless.” As a teacher who has had the privilege of watching Jerome grow as a person, she also noted, “He has become much more self-aware and reflective in his learning! Wherever he goes I know he will make an impact!”
Currently, Jerome is taking EWU English 4 with Ms. Brixey. She too has only good things to say about Jerome’s character. Among the things that to her stand out about him are his people skills. Jerome “knows how to look a person in the eye, smile, and hold that smile until the smile travels to his eyes. He is comfortable in front of a group; he absorbs questions, teasing, and compliments with equal ease.”
After high school, Jerome will be attending the Montana State University in Bozeman, where he currently is going in undecided. It is however worth noting that Ms. Guzman felt certain he was either minoring or double majoring in Spanish.
It is safe to say that Jerome Jerome is a jack of all trades, coming close to mastering them all too. He is a valued teammate and captain, an outdoorsman, a great friend, a vital part of the Cascade Publications team, and a committed student carving out a clear path for himself. Jerome proves that it is possible to have it all in high school if you want it badly enough.
