Senior Vanessa West is an incredibly involved student at Cascade High School. Vanessa enjoys playing sports like volleyball, softball, and spending time with her family and friends. Vanessa is known for being kind, intelligent, and a hard-working person. “Vanessa is always a kind and understanding friend. We understand each other well. She is always there when I need her,” said Emma Sunitsch.
One of Vanessa`s biggest impacts at Cascade are seen through her work in Publications. She is the co-Editor-in-Chief for the publication team. Vanessa`s been in Publications for two years. “Publications shows you what it's like to have a real job," she said. She enjoys “photographing events at school and being able to put together the yearbook. It's a rewarding process being able to see everything we work on throughout the year.” "Vanessa is incredibly mature, very detail-oriented, and talented. Working with her is easy, she brings a lot to the table, and she gets along with everyone,” said Publications advisor Ms. Robison. "She has good control over the pubs team and brings a good attitude every day,” said advanced staffer Maddy Black.
Besides being an important member of Publications, Vanessa has also been a part of Cascade`s softball team for the past three years. “My coaches have taught me to be disciplined and push myself to the limit,” said West. “She's versatile, very focused, team oriented and a fun person to be around. She impacted the team by being a very stable presence, great attitude and is willing to play any position at any time,” explained CHs softball coach Mr. Fraker. On the softball team, Vanessa has had an impact not only with her coaches but also on her teammates. Senior teammate Coco Zehm said, "She's hardworking, and one of the friendliest teammates on the team. She's always lifting others up, setting the standard on how we should act and play.”
In addition to being a stand-out athlete and a hard-working member of the Publications team, Vanessa has been a consistent student at Cascade High School. “She's been in sports and is a student athlete but, she is a student first. She's always valued her learning and helps other people when they need it,” said Principal Joya. Apart from being a student athlete, Vanessa has a part-time job in downtown Leavenworth. For the future Vanessa hopes to go to University of Washington and major in the medical field, preferably nursing.
By being a strong academic student while being involved in sports, Publications, and managing a part time job, West proves she'll go far both in college and beyond. CHS will surely miss her.
